The iconic former Savoy cinema on Argyle Street, Birkenhead, is set for demolition, marking the end of an era for this historic building. The cinema, built in 1938 and known for its art deco frontage, ceased operations in the 1980s and subsequently became a snooker hall and gym. Due to the inability to secure new tenants and the building’s deteriorating condition, Manchester-based Grand Property Assets Ltd has applied for permission to demolish it. The site may be redeveloped into 41 apartments, enhancing the Hamilton Square Conservation Area.
